ssspppaaarrrkkknnnooottteeessss

There's a point near the end of every school year, as you're rummaging frantically through your locker for one of six assignments you forgot to do, finding only garbage and wet gym clothes, that you say to yourself:next year will be different.

You will be clean, and responsible, and your locker won't be full of... what even is that, part of a goat? Next year, none of this. You'll start off on the right foot....OR WILL YOU?!

No.

Promise: You'll keep a decent sleep schedule this year. Every morning you'll wake up fresh as a daisy at 5 a.m., when you will read The Fancy Post-Courier and eat a dignified breakfast, like a British person.
Reality: A new MMO will require you to murder a specific number of unicorns by sunrise. A new reality show about trashy, whiny adulterers will captivate you until the wee hours of the morning. Your friends will demand that you come along as they drive around aimlessly until 4 a.m. One or all of these will cause you to get to sleep two minutes before you're supposed to wake up. Your dignified breakfast will be a bowl of nothing. Instead of reading the Post-Courier, you will read the nothing. Instead of being up by 5, you will fall asleep on the bus, and instead of being fresh as a daisy, you will be covered in coffee, because the grouchy bus driver will resort to pouring it on your head to wake you up.

Promise: Your locker will be clean and orderly this year. You will totally do this for once.
Reality: Halfway through the year, a Hazmat team will be dispatched to your locker. Citing conditions so ghastly that "something must be wrong with our Science Instruments," an obviously distressed scientist will declare the entire hallway unsafe for human life.

Promise: No more falling behind on required reading. You will read everything you're supposed to this time, and if you fall behind, you will read super-hard instead of solely relying on the (admittedly brilliant) SparkNotes.
Reality: You will wait until the last minute before lazily looking up the SparkNote.

Promise: You'll eat better this year, maybe bringing your own dainty lunch of lettuce wrapped around tofu, which you've heard is not necessarily as inedible as it sounds.
Reality: You will last until the first day the cafeteria offers Country-Fried Anything, whereupon you will realize you've been eating plants and goo, and fling your lunch angrily out the window.

Promise: No more getting to the end of the year with textbooks held together by duct tape and hope. You'll take care of them this year, enough so that when you're done with them, people will be able to tell what subject they were about.
Reality
: Actually, you'll start off extremely well, treating your textbooks like a beloved baby (i.e. not mindlessly scribbling on them or anything). You will cover them in nice, shimmery book covers that cost like ten bucks, the kind the President would use if he were in high school. Then, when you're delicately opening your backpack to check on the safety of your precious, precious books, a clumsy passerby will dump like a gallon of Pepsi on them.

"Nooooooo!!" you will shout, falling to your knees and shaking your fists at the heavens. Then, you'll bust out the duct tape.

Sound familiar?

The Owl and the Pussy Cat

I
The Owl and the Pussy-cat went to sea
In a beautiful pea green boat,
They took some honey, and plenty of money,
Wrapped up in a five pound note.
The Owl looked up to the stars above,
And sang to a small guitar,
'O lovely Pussy! O Pussy my love,
What a beautiful Pussy you are,
You are,
You are!
What a beautiful Pussy you are!'

II
Pussy said to the Owl, 'You elegant fowl!
How charmingly sweet you sing!
O let us be married! too long we have tarried:
But what shall we do for a ring?'
They sailed away, for a year and a day,
To the land where the Bong-tree grows
And there in a wood a Piggy-wig stood
With a ring at the end of his nose,
His nose,
His nose,
With a ring at the end of his nose.

III
'Dear pig, are you willing to sell for one shilling
Your ring?' Said the Piggy, 'I will.'
So they took it away, and were married next day
By the Turkey who lives on the hill.
They dined on mince, and slices of quince,
Which they ate with a runcible spoon;
And hand in hand, on the edge of the sand,
They danced by the light of the moon,
The moon,
The moon,
They danced by the light of the moon.

I spent this weekend in pittsburgh with my brother and sister, and to say the least, it was an absolute blast! On friday night when we arrived, we went to eat at this little cafe and afterward went back home and watched my brother and i watched this really insane movie called "Synechdoche New York" ...it gets really confusing but i definitely recommend it. after that we watched a couple episodes of "it's always sunny in philadelphia" which is now one of my new favorite shows hahaha. after that we played an intense game of cranium that ended up being really close actually...it came down to the last question.
On saturday we went to the mattress factory which is basically an art museum except the art is all displays that try to mess with your perception of things and other cool stuff like that. I've been to the Louvre and i have to say that this was hands down my favorite museum i've been to. After that we went to the Andy Warhol museum which was kind of a let down after the awesome-ness of the mattress factory. i guess it's a hard act to follow. Then we went to eat in this bar that was like "man heaven"...simply put the bar came complete with 18 TVs with sports on them that were all way too loud, a stripper pole, and mini basketball game thingy...'twas rather annoying. And while we were there, Kelli and i were approached twice with inquiries about whether or not we were twins..."No, we're actually six years apart."

in other news Obama signed the new health care plan today, so thats pretty cool :]
i shall be keeping you updated, but right now i have to go to dance...

peace, love, and healthcare reform

Ash Wednesday 2010

salutations! this is my very first post on blogger, and i'm going to do my best to make a habit out of posting whenever i feel the need from here on out. i'm leen. i'm fourteen as of july 9th 2009, and i'm relocating here from livejournal because...well, i felt like it was just becoming more and more pointless. so, a little bit about me. i'm a freshman and i like to think that i'm wise beyond my years, but i'll let you be the judge of that...i really love music. listening, playing it, and anything else that has to do with it really. i play the guitar, piano, ukulele, and i've been singing since i was two years old. when i "grow up" (or whatever...) i want to do something involving music in some form or another. law schools the back up plan. maybe i'll find time to do both at some point in my life.

but as of right now, i'm a freshman that just feels a little misplaced, like most other people my age. but i'm adjusting. and exploring. it actually feels pretty good. at this point in my life, i don't have any actual goals set. actually, that's a total and complete lie. i actually have a "bucket list" thats mostly made up of short term goals(189 short term goals to be exact)...but you know, they're still goals. i guess you could say that my only goal is just to be and to explore who i am and the person i'm becoming.
peace&love,
leen.
